Microsoft Research do great stuff and cool: Surface and programming for children with Boku

It is inspiring to se how Microsoft act in academia (15% of MS Research budget goes direct to grants and mor) and to see the number of areas where they are active. MS as 850 PhDs employed all over the the world to day!

A research project is to project two images in parallel from underneath the surface. In fact the images flicker faster than you are able to detect. This means you can project an image on the surface of the Surface and a second image on a piece of plastic or paper being held above the surface. You may for instance show a map and an overlapping image above the surface only that shows the street names. Or you can show a picture of space and overlay with the constellations. Very cool!

Microsoft also does programming languages for children under the code name Boku which is an interactive world where you create programming instructions for different kinds of droids in the world.

Cheers,

M.
