Today was the final stop of Dotways Visual Studio 2008 & .NET Framework 3.5 Open Space tour! It is sad that such a fun event happening tour is over. Yet it is good to know that in each event participants seemed very pleased with the outcome. Stockholm tonight was no exception. The arrangements were exquisite and the meeting venue was really good! Two Microsoft participants joined our merry bunch: Robert Folkesson and Dag König.
I repeat that in Sweden Open Space is a novel thing and some aspects of the Swedish folk mentality makes it hard for us to reach out and actively participate in an event of this sort. In Stockholm however this went rather well. Many of us participated in each discussion and we covered topics like Extension methods or Inheritance, Silverlight sites/communities, will the next platform be an application platform in the sky and why don't .NET developers write tests?
What did we conclude?
Use extensions with caution and only to make things simpler and more understandable.
Silverligth sites have their challenges like deep linking and more.
Platforms in the sky... not yet!
.NET developers are learning but why we don't write the tests is a combination of cultural differences and the fact that we have lots of great support and wizards enabling rapid development that do not focus on testing or testability.
All in all very good topics and discussions! Now I'm tired and will go to sleep for a while before catching a plane home to Malmo in the morning.
