The new beta of Internet Explorer is out - (Internet Explorer Beta 2). As must-test-everything-first-especially-betas freak geek naturally I had to install it and take it for a spin.
But how do you uninstall a beta of IE?
This is not one of the common tasks since normally betas are not part of the OS integrated features. Normally you find uninstalls in the Programs And Features section. You almost do here too. What you have to do is switch to "View installed updates" view:
Then you find the beta in the updates list:
The Beta 2 is named Windows Internet Explorer 8. This is my screen capture for uninstalling Beta 1.
There is one reboot for uninstall and one for install of the new Beta which means it takes a bit of time to get there.
On the new features front I can report that the new "Compatibility View Settings" are really nice. I would have liked the setting to be a bit more easy to reach or to have a quick way to add a site to the list of sites that have to run in compatibility mode. For those of you who don't understand what I'm on about it's like this: My bank for instance does not accept the new IE Betas so I have to run IE in compatibility mode. In the first beta this required a restart of IE. Not on so in beta 2! Now all you have to do is add a site to a compatibility list and it will run as if it were the current (IE7) making the request.
So I added my bank to the list and without reboot I was now able to access my accounts. Very nice actually!
Cheers,
/Magnus
